Don't use Sword or Axe, use Sword AND Axe - hammer too. The good thing about GW is the variation, you get more out of the game the more different options you try. Likewise, change secondary profession regularly - try Wa/* anything else depending on what you are doing. There are no useless combos in GW, just some things are better than others for specific situations.

There is so much misinformation in this thread (as there always is in Swords vs Axes debates) that it hurts me. Search back through the thirty-six or so threads on the exact same topic and dig out the little nuggets of wisdom hidden amongst the dross.

I use all 3 and if it was a choice id say hammer. The shield was nerfed to only physical defense so its not as bad with a hammer now. I dont know what this has to do with skins but id say if it came to dmg hammer, sword/axe are tied. why? axe has destructive chop in nightfall wich is definatley the final thrust of axes. swords have a NON elite skill that rivals destructive chop and eviscerate thus making it possible to use utility elites (charge bulls charge w/e). Hammer is definatley the highest dps wich people know and thats why they use it in spikes. If it came down to skins then id say sword has the cooler skin (plagueborn sword notice this is an AFFORDABLE skin) axes are also cool they got razorstone which kinda makes sephis axes pointless to get. the coolest skin which is definatley in the affordable region now is kanaxais axe. people say that tribal axe and dwarven axes are cool in this thread... WHO HERE ACTUALLY HAS ONE!!! and when it comes to hammers break hammers are a nice sleek skin wich u can get from a collector mursaat hammers arnt to hard to get either.

1. Don't use what looks cool, only use what WORKS
1.1. Make sure your weapon is max damage, has 15^50 and is customised. Buy these weapons at weaponcrafters in droknars forge or kaineng center for 5k from the weapon NPC crafter
2. Just hitting stuff while using no skills will show you that axes do more damage than swords because of the criticals that are added. This is true for 16 sword vs 16 axe mastery. Using 11 or anything less than 14 means you're not a warrior or you're using a weird farmingbuild. If you add skills to the damage then you'll see that both weapons perform similarly.
2.1. In PvE you'll notice that axes might be more interesting because triple chop or other axe attacks don't fit into a specialised combo. You can use them in whatever order you like and if one misses then there's no problem. With Swords however, I noticed that a lot of builds rely on getting that special hit in, making sure the target is bleeding or hoping that your dragonslash won't miss. Imo, you rely much too heavily on skills to keep up your DPS when using swords while with axes you seem to simply be slaughtering things with triple chop or cyclone axes...
** ok it doesn't NEED to be 15^50. 15stanced or enchanted will work too but you'd have to keep that condition up...

Ok, Im reading theses posts, and I need help.
This is my first time actulley being Damage dealing Proffesion. I am not new to GW at all! I have always just been Healer. So, now it's time for me to take action.
Just made a new Character, W/Mo. She is new, so am I. I got her to lvl 10, and Im still on Island. I have farmed some REALLY good green and purple hammers, but I am currently using a sword. Are Hammers/axes even good, I never see ppl use them.
I only have points in Swordsmanship, and Strength. Im totally new to this Proffesion, let alone dealing damage to foes. I need help, obviously.
I just want to e able to take damage, while more of it in return.
I want a tanking build, but...not sure what a Tank truly implies.

Destructive chop in pve? At least final thrust only empties adren, destructive
empties the whole energy bar too. I know you can get away with pretty much anything in pve, but going around with one big attack only doesn't seem very efficient. The only time you'd need something like that would be for spiking targets, and you hardly need that in pve. That's why I think triple chop is better than evis in pve. Unless you're farming bosses that is.

This is PvE. There is no weapon swapping in PvE, no matter how much sense it makes. Autoattack and/or spam keys 1-8 FTW.

And let me guess, Sundering >>>>>>> Vampiric because it's 183978734k more expensive and it sounds so damn cool?

Shields were not nerfed to be physical damage only.
Only the part that now specifically states something like "-2 physical damage received (while in a stance)" was nerfed. Not the 16ar base of the shield.

Having two sets of weapons and swapping to each when different situations occur.
